Do Not Replace It - Refinish Your Wood Floor Finish

Your wood floors are an excellent alternative to replace them with engineering and product fit. It is also very cost effective and may prove to be the best investment for the future value of your home. If you're ambitious, you can take yourself on this project by renting the necessary equipment, and to have patience and a little time to perform the task. If not, there are many professional bodybuilders available in most areas that can be used to make a quick, effective work. Get an estimate from a professional in all cases. It can be very satisfying to know how much money you will save if you do the work themselves.

It's actually not that difficult to install hardwood floors yourself. You must use a drum sander or a belt of several grades of sandpaper to go with it. You can rent a sander from your local hardware store, and most likely, they may propose sandpaper qualities you need.Standard grade is about 20, but you may need up to 100 to get a real rough spots and gouges out. Do not forget to get your face dust mask or respirator when you are going to create a lot of dust and wood finishing. You might want to isolate you from the other room, rooms in the house with plastic wrap. Ventilation must be a local business. You have removed all the wall hangings and furniture, such as paintings in the room, right?

Before you start sanding the floor to check for, staples nails or pins that may be protruding above the surface. These things can rip your sandpaper quickly, and even ruin a belt sander or a disk, if not removed. The key to a perch well to keep grinding movements and go to the grain of the wood, not on it. If you stop when Sanders is running, you can produce to cheat or to burn in that area. You should also consider wearing ear protection when doing this work. These are strong Sanders.Do not wear very loose clothing that can be captured by the sander. The gloves are very useful too.

After your finished sanding, clean the area very well at first with a sweeping plan, so a shop vacuum and then damp mop. Allow to dry and settle overnight. Mop again the next morning and let it dry for several hours.

What type of finish did you decide? Three layers are usually required, stripping hardwood base coat, color (if used) and top coat for durability. Choose from oil or water-based polyurethane finishes. If you choose an oil-based finish, you decide if you want a satin, gloss or semi gloss. A satin oil based, like a mural, semi-gloss or flat, hide stains better. Water based products dry more quickly and resists any yellowing that may occur. Please choose a corner spot and try your selection before finishing the entire floor. I can not stress this enough. If you're satisfied, you can apply color to the rest of the floor with a brush or roller, and the evening with a soft clean cloth. Be sure to let the layers dry according to manufacturer's instructions. Remember, again, it is necessary to break down for you and your room.

Painting is a way to increase the durability of your floor and improve its appearance, and is a three step process of sanding, staining and finishing can be done yourself.
